Default New carb and fuel pump start procedure?

I can start it with a spray bottle of gas.
How do I get the pump to draw fuel to the sediment bowl? Keep spraying for a longer run? I've sprayed it and it ran about half a dozen times for a few seconds. No sign of anything getting to the glass bowl?

Just one possibility, check the cork fuel bowl gasket for cracks or leaks.

Fill the glass bowl manually. If it runs dry, then the issue is not the pump proper but perhaps a bad gasket as has been suggested previously.
Bad flex hose? Sucking air via the frame mounted line from the tank?

Removed sediment bowl filter.
Filled bowl with fuel.
It's running. The pump came with a neoprene gasket, I have had problems with them before.
I'd still like to run the filter in the bowl but it's a very difficult balancing act to get it on. I'll retry tomorrow after a nights sleep, Frustrating day.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll post a pic of the filter.

Don't understand how the fuel is fed into filter and how it gets to the pump?
Jsut a bunch of small hole around the top that seems to be restricted by the bowl gasket?
Thanks again.

I have found that cork fuel pump bowl gaskets work better than the neoprene ones. It sounds counter-intuitive, but that's my take on it. Also, make sure there are no nicks on the rim of the bowl and that it is dead flat. I run them on my surface plate with wet-r-dry paper to make sure.

In my opinion, if you have a sediment bowl, you don't need that filter.

You're probably right about not needing the filter, I've had so much trouble getting this to run smooth as it did in years past I'm just being over cautious...
New gas tank. New fuel lines, new fuel pump and a damn expensive new carb. Oh ya and a fixed and properly running hydrostatic guage. Thanks to deuce lover's instructions.

I have used a neoprene gasket for years with out difficulty - cork gets hard and brittle. TerryS may have a stuck valve in the fuel pump - hit it with screw driver handle has solved that issue for me. I have an electric pump at the tank - good way to prime and if there is a leak on the suction side between tank and mechanical pump it will show up.

I had the same problem with my '40. I smeared a little oil on both sides of the gasket to help with the seal and all was good after that.

I have it running now.
I will remember the tips on a flat surface and a little oil on gasket.
Thanks Terry S
