Default Mitchel OD

A fella called and said he had a new Mitchel OD for sale. Said it had the solenoid shifter. Anyone know about Mitchel and this shifter? I didn't turn up much in the search. Thanks

To my knowledge, the Mitchell O.D. only is made with a manual shifter.

Call Mitchell and see what they have to say.

My opinion,

Sounds like a borg warner od to me. Bob Johnson spoke with Mitchell a bunch of years ago and said that a solenoid was not a good idea, so I would say no, it's not a Mitchell.

Sometimes when a particular product is dominated by a particular maker, the maker's name pre-supposes the nomenclature of the product - ie. 'Frigidaire', 'Jeep', etc. 'Frigidaire' became synonymous with refrigerator; 'Jeep' became synonymous with 4-wheel drive vehicle.

So for some, perhaps, an over-drive unit is automatically thought of by some, to be a 'Mitchell.

I too, like Mike, suspect that with a solenoid involved, the unit is a Borg-Warner, or similar over-drive unit - not a Mitchell.

Mitchell units are all mechanical no electrical connection.

I have a Mitchell OD in my 31 coupe. In my opinion there is nothing better. I could not have any other type OD even if it was free. Just my 2 cents.
