Default 1950 sedan ignition switch

Hello, I'm having trouble re-installing the ignition switch. The manual said to pry off the bezel and turn the switch body 1/8th turn and pull it out from behind. But now, when I go to re-install it, I cant get the switch to rotate enough to lock into place. I'm afraid to put too much torque on the switch for fear of breaking something. Is it just notoriously hard to rotate? Or, am I doing something wrong?

You have to pull the switch toward you to collapse the spring that seats against the inside of the dash. Rotate until the grooves line up and release.
