Default Ford Generator, 12V or 6V?

A generator that I bought for my car is a '40 style two brush. How can I determine whether it is a 6V or a 12V? Thanks: Fred A

Have you looked closely to see if someone stamped a "12" on it? I am sure the next person to answer will be more helpful.

what i have seen is the 6v gen will have a guide hole in about the center of the generator outer case to locate the gen for proper belt alighnment, the 12 v will not have that locating hole
