Re: Who can re-sleeve an original distributor?
P.S, love your post # 38! Like "they" say, "REPITITION is the MOTHER of learning, and the FATHER of boredom"
Were you exhausted by typing, or did your 3 legged Cat help you? (Sorry, Paul, I forgot his name.)

Re: Who can re-sleeve an original distributor?
Bill, Looks like he is getting huffy.A few of us took the time to type and try to give common sense advice and help. I know I've seen several of the shaft sleeves that had the hole drilled slightly too low. A small amount removed from the top of the sleeve with a file would have given the needed clearance and the pin hole would have lined up. Oh yeah I was going back on the gav thread this morning but I saw that you had removed some posts. The same needle driver housing fits the Zenith and the Tillotson. Its the Marvel that has the oddball hex shaped GAV needle and the odd ball needle driver is missing on most. I think that is the one that you were thinking about. it just didn't occur to me at the time.

Re: Who can re-sleeve an original distributor?
Bill- The 3 legged cat is "Okie".
Purdy- Not huffy at all, rather giggly in fact. Felt like the main point was being overlooked and people kept guessing anyway. The bushings were recessed slightly, NONE of the bushing was sticking out either side at any time, but that point might have been missed. The housing itself was off just enough to cause the shaft to bind when the sleeve was put on with the pin through it. You can see where the material has been machined off, and it was very little at all, but just enough to cause all the cussing. And why wouldn't I want this distributor? It's very possibly the one that came on the car when new. And now that it's working properly, it can go back on the car and be used for another 82 years! Thanks for all the help guys. Turned out this was a "checkbook repair". Though, it ended up being a very inexpensive one. |

Sorry Paul, I had a few things mixed up . I was way out of line. Thanks for not kicking my butt. The important thing is that you've got it fixed. Good luck .
