Default Tail light disassembly

I was trying to install a second license plate bracket to house my 1930 antique plate but can't figure out how to get the wires out of the tail light. Do those light sockets push out the back of the housing? If not, how the heck do I thread the wires through the new bracket.

If I remember right, the connector is a rubber thing that the two bullet ends plug into.
