Default Any ideas on this piece that fits under the carb?

Hi guys. I’ve had this piece for quite a while. Not sure if it’s for water injection or maybe an old charcoal gas maker? Any ideas?

No telling how many aftermarket items were sold that were touted to improve economy or performance. The valve has Moisture Auto Adjustment on it so it was likely some form of water vaporizer set up. I doubt that that would do an internal combustion engine much good.

I think you should try it out. Then give us a before and after performance report. 8^)

I wonder if there is a reservoir that went with that, that little tank wouldn’t hold very much fluid. It should help prevent carbon deposits in the engine at least.

That's cool. I'd plug it and mount it just to see how many people ask about it.

In the early days of automotive technology, this accessory and others like it played a minor role in removing and preventing that nasty green buildup that some men tend to accumulate in thier wallets. Modern technology is capable of performing that task with an efficiency unimaginable back then.

Might shine up nice with Brasso or NevrDull. If it was mine, I'd install it. So I want one too. 8^)

That System that Danliveshere has is a Hydro -Vent P.V.C. system for a Ford V8 engine. I have come across several ones in this my photo fitted to Ford V8 army engines. A pipe is connected to them from the V8 manifold to the unit. I have not seen one of Dans model yet.

I wonder what state of mind someone had to be in to think that one up?

What a beautiful piece of machinery! I do wonder, though, about the optimum range of useful RPMs this model is capable of, given its inherently tremendous vibration level.

Guys I have made Hydrogen fuel cells before, and the last one I had on my 6 cylinder diesel truck, certainly seemed to increase the fuel economy ( about 10%,) but it also seemed to have more power. I’ll clean this up, pull apart and see if I can use it for this purpose one day.

Remember, the Germans used their MW50 Methanol/Water injection on their piston-engined fighters in WWII to great effect. It says it "sprayed into the supercharger". It looks like it has to be used with one of those J.C. Whitney "Mini-superchargers" that fit under the carburetor.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MW_50.

Something like this, but for a 94/97 and two little free-spinning propellors.

The Luftwaffe wasn't the only air force to use water/alcohol to prevent detonation. The allied forces did as well. When the Merlin was throttled into war emergency power setting, they needed the anti-detonation injection of alcohol mix to cool them down. Those 2-stage superchargers put a hell of a strain on the engines.
