Saving 'extra' parts? I sold that Aerostar 15+yrs ago so I thought it was ok to let the takeoff springs go in a garage sale two moves ago.

Until this '55 T-Bird is back on the road with most of the bugs worked out I'm not parting with any extra or leftover pieces. I'm even getting multiples of some things it's missing so I'll have choices of which parts to use.

Yes, the wire size/gauge for 6v systems is double the current capacity needed for 12v. Just use the proper 12v sized fuses and in-line circuit breakers for protection of 12v devices.
I'd think if you use 12v to run any original 6v motors it would be safer to start out using the fuses/breakers a 12v ('56+) would have had in case of any problems, fuses are cheaper than replacement motors. Some/most(?) 6v motors work ok on 12v as long as you're careful & don't overuse them.

Folks, don't forget that you can adjust the height with a spacer above the spring, and still get the benefit of the progressive wound spring. That 's if it sits lower than planned.

Blatant OT plug, I have a set of the 850 springs available,, my Desoto was too much for them.

I installed the Aerostar springs on my '57 Ranchero (has a 312 in it) and it dropped the height 3.5". It was actually sitting on the bump stops. So I ordered some polyurethane spring isolators for a Fox mustang and raised it back up roughly 1". The ride is great. Going over bumps it does get a little bouncy; probably bouncing off the bump stops. I've thought about installing KYB shocks as I know they are a bit stiffer than factory shocks. I also installed 2" lowering blocks in the back; she sits nice a low now with about 4.5" of ground clearance at the lowest point on the frame. I have to go slow over speed bumps.

Buckskin Brown and Snowshoe White, love it... Had a '55 Ranchwagon those colors in my youth. Should have kept it.

My latest '55 Ranchwagon (The Mid-Life Crisis) has Aerostar springs and Granada Spindles/discs brakes and it sits a little too low. Had to add a rubber spacer above the spring to lift it ~1" Also have KYB Gas-A-Just shocks. Rides real nice, NO body roll.
