Default No Ears

Has anyone seen one of these banjo wheels without the little ears or button shaped risers that are usually above and below the horn button?? Made for out-of-counrty models? Early re-pop?

It is definitely very old, and has a tapered keyway.

I dig it, it's going on my '36, but I'm curious why it's diferent than ones I've seen, and would like to identify it.

Thanks Barners, in advance, for any information you may have on this.

Richard, I've never seen a '39 Ford with a dash mounted headlight switch (I always thought Ford moved the headlight switch to the dash in ’40) I've also never seen a "horn button" like that, but I like it.

I wonder if someone got tired of their headlights going out in turns from their sleeves catching on the nubs and done some real nice work removing them.

I have continued doing some looking on the internet and still haven't seen any without the nubs. It has also stumped a couple folks I know who are very knowledgable about the early V8's.

Richard Crow. Thanks, good info about the 36 horn rod.

Ken CT, not sure yet about the horn. Light switch will go on the dash. It's an all "old Ford parts" car, flathead, banjo rear, etc....but it's not a "restoration". I'm sure I can machine something or figure out a clean way to get that stock horn button to work, and appear to not have been jiggered with. It's got a really nice 36 standard wheel and center on it now, but I like this a lot better.

Anyone ????

I have a 39 with banjo wheel, but my horn button just shows V8 on it. And, I don't think it's made of metal?
Hmm

As the banjo was very popular right from the start, there were many knock-offs made by outside vendors, yours must be either one of those, or a modified Ford wheel because it definitely wasn't supplied by Ford like that. All genuine Ford banjo wheels had horn/light rods and the nubs that are missing on this one.
