Default Sbf short water pump/v-belt questions

I have a 1990 engine out of a fox mustang and was wondering what vbelt pulleys guys are running? I was told early mustang pulleys and alt bracket by a guy. Also I mocked my shoebox up with a 70's van 302, it has a shorter water pump BUT the coolant hose exit the passenger side, and I also thought about using the pulleys but the crank is has a 3 bolt pully. Has anyone found any new info on off the shelf parts that will accommodate this application? The FOMO Sport is out of my price range.
Thanks Dave

This should help: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=303600 scroll down to #5.The pass side outlet water pump was last used in 1969 as was the 3 bolt harmonic balancer,70 and later pumps were longer and on the drivers side,READ carefully the article I wrote,if you use the 50 oz balancer I suggest you can use the short water pump you have now as this balancer has both 3 &4 holes for pulleys. Here is the correct pulley set for the short pump and balancer: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Small...Q5fAccessories

The surpentine w/pumps are reverse flow,so you'll need to change the timing chain cover as well.

Can you just change to a v belt pulley system without changing pumps?

You already have the short pump on your mock up engine, the 50 oz balancer($69.95) I directed you to works with the short pump you have, the chrome pulley set is $75 or use the pulleys you have on the mock up 302.You haven't told us what the 1990 5.0 is going in also, which may have a bearing on pump selection,in some early 50's Fords the later long pumps I mentioned in the link I wrote will necesitate using a slimline electric fan,you cannot use your 1990 reverse flow pump with V-belts.

Most radiator shops can relocate and resolder the lower outlet for under $50,in 1949-56 Fords this will give you the clearance you will need.

I don't think you have the short pump, and the lower hose is on the driver's side. The only SBFs that had the lower hose on the passenger side 69 and older, and they were Vbelt and standard rotation. The Mustangs that had the short w/pump were 94 and 95s.Explorers/Mountaineers in the 90s and 91-3 T-birds/Cougars also had the short w/pumps.

Milt, read that first post #1 again. NOTE: pass side outlet,3 bolt pulley on harmonic balancer= early 65-69 short pump on mock up engine. Just to illustrate the difference between the early and late pumps,Pic#1 is '54 Ford w/302 and long pump which needed a slimline electric fan Pic#2 is also a '54 Ford sedan w/302 and the early 65-69 pass side pump, big difference in clearance.

JeffB,I didn't see the part about the three bolt crank pulley(must be 69 or older),but he has a surpentine pulley on it.I'm confused,he said it's a 90 engine and it came out of 70s van with a 3 bolt crank pulley, and a short w/pump inlet on the passenger's side.i don't know of any short w/pump with the inlet on the passenger's side.I see all kinds of inconsistencys, educate me.

It seems He made a mistake on the year of the donor Van,'69 and earlier would have a 3 bolt balancer and a short pass outlet pump as the same era cars did.If it were in fact a 1970 or later Van someone had to have transplanted a '69 or earlier SBF into it.For years the bowtie guys bragged on the interchangeability of SBC parts, our SBF's also offer that as well,it just takes years of doing to learn what works. The serpentine pulley you see in the picture is His 1990 5.0,not the 302 donor He used for mockup.
