Default Do I need a special tool for this ring clip???

Does this ring clip need a special tool or just some old fashioned patience? I'm struggling with it and none of my normal ring tools work on it...

Yes, they are tough to deal with. Use a lot of pressure pushing toward the shaft center with your expansion tool. It helps to have a second person to stuff a small screwdriver blade under one of the clip ends. You can then peal the ring out from that end. You should have a new replacement available for reassembly. If the replacement has the same (wrong angle) ground on one side, grind it to match the other side, and it will be easy to put on with your expansion tool.

Aren't those a treat?! I ended up using a dremel disc to cut halfway thru the opposite side from the gap, made it easy to spread and snap in half. But you have to be sure there is a new one on hand.

Yeah, I agree with Russ. I used a small screw driver to start it lifting out and then a larger one to work it out of the groove. Take your time and it will come off. I also like the idea of grinding the wrong end so you can pry from each end of the ring, that way you can get it started out of the groove easier next time you need to remove it.

Use a Dremel tool to cut a notch in the end thtat slopes the wrong way and then your expansion pliers will work.

I got tired of fighting them and bought a snap ring pliers from pep boys I think that have flat tabs on the ends of the tips with grooving in them. Takes them right off. Ebay seller century-hotrod also sells them $23
