Auto executives are real airheads! It's quite common to hit a rock or other debris that puts a gash in the sidewall. What good is your silly can of goo now, Mr. Smarty Pants Car Exec? Add in a 120 deg. day here in the Southwest, on a secondary road, 75 miles from the nearest tire store, and no cell phone reception (there are even areas on the Interstates out here without cell service) and it can get life threatening!

But they now sell road side insurance!

A Honda hired recently had a plug kit (4wd style) and a tiny compressor. Most people would have no idea how to use a plug kit.

My understanding is that the fuel economy mandates have gotten progressively so restrictive that they just can't make the car fuel efficient enough, so they are forced to trim weight. A spare tire is extra weight.

They don't eliminate them completely. There is still a storage space for it. It is just no longer "standard" equipment. Only standard equipment is used for the fuel economy measurements. Trust me...the dealer will try to sell you a spare as an accessory.

Most spare less cars have the spot for mounting a tire. I have purchased many for customers that wanted to have one. Tire, rim, mounting kit, jack and hardware approx 350.00
Yea roadside assistance try that in poor weather conditions. What a joke

Not so for my daughter's Toyota Rav4. There is no provision for a spare "if" it wasn't ordered new with a spare. Her vehicle requires the use of them new "run flat technology" tires. Kind of stupid if you ask me.

I agree.
Also, not sure, but I think prices for run flat tires are way up there.

Why not do away with the fuel altogether. Then we could all start waking. That would reduce the weight problem in the US. Then we would save on insurance.
Do not think that will fly.
