In previous postings and conversations, bells, buzzers, flashing lights and now clappers have been suggested. All good ideas, but too irritating. I just want the switch to cancel.

Warren,

there are flashing relays that switch off automatically after 15 seconds.

A compromise.

My dash had a small hole in the lower left. No idea what it was for and have seen the hole in a few other cars, but it was the perfect location to mount a small red LED to indicate the turn signal was on. Self cancelling would be good but not easily done. Cancelling after 15 seconds would mean i would have to turn it on multiple times at some of our intersections

Hallo und guten Nachmittag.

Back to the original post.

Unfortunately I can't give Bert's Shop a good rating. On the contrary.

I ordered and submitted the credit card details.
I got the message “Shipping label created”.

I received the invoice stamped “Paid”.

It's been 10 days now and I'm waiting for the replacement part. I wrote to Bert 6 times and received no response.

That's not how trading works! I also warned my Model A circle of friends about this impossibility. ---

Unfortunately I can't find any other dealer that offers this US production. Do any of you know of any better dealer to recommend?

Werner,

that's also been my experience with Bert's... But the parts arrived, so i assume that they are just not good at communicating. And, being sent by USPS, it may take three weeks for the parts to arrive. if you are unlucky, you have to pick them up from customs, including all the paperworkwar that is necessary.

N'Abend Ford-Freunde.

I canceled my order of the indicator switch at Bert's shop after nearly two weeks due to insufficient correspondence and unreasonable waiting times .

I had requested processing and shipping as quickly as possible because in order to continue driving my car had to pass its two-year legally required safety inspection.

In my classic car environment I will advise against Bert's shop.

Werner,

i am sorry you have had a bad experience with Berts. my experience is mixed, they do ship, but the communication is lacking. My favourite supplier is Snyders, but they do not sell this switch...

This has been done using a signal switch from Speedway and an Advanced Turn Signal Module from Signal Dynamics
SCAN0087.JPG

I have a fully functional self cancelling turn signal in my Model A using an after market stalk mounted unit.
I first disassembled the turn signal unit and unsoldered all wires from the board except the yellow, green and black. I then cut the yellow, green and black at about 18", this is dependent on where you will mount the control module. I then cut all the wires to reach the control module location. I installed female bullet connectors on the 9 wires coming out of the control module and male bullet connectors on the yellow and green wires coming from the switch and all the wires that were cut back to reach the control module.
DSC05269.JPG

As you can see in the picture above, I ground the detents from the actuator arm to make this a momentary switch. The arm after depression, automatically returns to home position. If you tap the arm to full extent and immediately let it return, the signal will flash for 7 seconds, holding the arm in signal position for 2-4 seconds gives you a 20 second signal and pressing over 4 seconds gives you a 75 second signal, When the signal is flashing, hitting the signal arm one more time will cancel the signal, especially good on the 75 second signal.

The color coding on most turn signals is the same so it doesn't really matter whose turn signal unit you use.

Here is a schematic built around the Advanced Turn Signal Module from Signal Dynamics

SCAN0086.JPG

The module can be ordered online from Signal Dynamics for about $120. There are other units available from them, but this one seemed to cover all the bases. You will not have 4 way flashers with this install. These units are primarily manufactured for use on motorcycles using two momentary switches. This seems like a lot of talk, but it is a fairly straight forward install. Let me know if I need to do any edits. Hopefully no more on going signals frustrating other motorists.
