Re: Engine Numbers Question
Looks like it is a June 1929 1 1/2 ton truck engine.

Re: Engine Numbers Question
On my title the VIN is A380248. When I enter that into the Date Lookup it comes out as Aug 30 1928.
Questions - Does it make sense that the VIN Number would correspond with the date the car was manufactured? I know the VIN is stamped on the frame under the body work. I looked under the gas tank and could not find a date stamped there. Is there any way other than removing the body to verify the VIN on the title? |

Re: Engine Numbers Question
FYI the car does have the red steering wheel which sure looks original and the 28 headlight lenses ...

Re: Engine Numbers Question
Per the Restoration Guidelines and Judging Standards YOUR ENGINE A380248 was probably made during the second week of Aug 28. This is when the engine was made not the car assembled. All engines were made and stamped at Dearborn and shipped to the various assembly plants. The assembly date for the vehicle may be as long as three months after the date the engine was produced.
On most 28/29 vehicles the assembly date is stamped on the firewall, drivers side above the split. The engine you currently have in your Model A is a truck engine and was swapped sometime in your A's past history. Depending on the condition of the frame the A380248 number should be on the top of the frame on the drivers side between about the rear motor mount and the battery box. The problem is you must lift the body to find this number and apparently many states are requireing the owner to do just that to verify the numbers. |

The date on the tank is, some, if not most of us, belive that that is the date the gas tank was assembled and tested...no the date of the assembly of the car itself. It is thought that these dates were put on the tank at Dearborn then they were shipped to the various assembly plants and up to 2-3 months before the car was assembled. See my website as I have a list there with the various senarios using gas tank dates vs. engine stamping dates...they are all over the board. Pluck |
