Default A vs AA frame

Hey there I am kind of new to the world of Model A's, my in-laws have multiple "doodlebugs" and many separate parts cars and recently they offered to give me a "AA" frame. Also I have access to most of their "A" parts, so I guess my question is what is the true difference between them? Are parts interchangeable? Will a model "A" body fit? I hope that this isn't to general of a question but any and all information on the subject is greatly needed and appreciated.

If I'm not mistaken a model a body will fit but the suspension components will not.

Yes, a lot of "A" parts were used with the "AA" chasiss...you will have to do the research to find out yourself. On the other hand, a lot of AA parts are not interchangable with the "A" parts...

I think the only "A" bodies that will fit the "AA" chassis are the Open and Closed Cab bodies...not sure if other "A" bodies will fit the "AA" chassis.

Your best bet is to first join a local Model A Ford Club in your area; get the MARC/MAFCA Restoration Guidelines and Judging Standards; and since you have "AA" parts...join the Model AA Ford Club...they also have a website.

The AA is a heavy frame for 1 1/2 ton trucks and IMHO not suitable for Model A car bodies. The wheel base is also much longer on the AA than the A. If you are cutting the AA frame for a doodlebug that's fine, but to fit an A body to it doesn't sound practical to me.

I would not use a AA frame for a car body. You would just have a mess and it would not be a real A. I have built a few a's from parts, in fact I'm building a 31 pickup from parts. But it takes a lot of time and looking for the right parts.

I appreciate the help, really want to put these parts to good use. I have the hood, grill radiator and original fenders from that AA frame. Is there any where specific to look for AA parts?

The hood and fenders are the same as the A.

Where are you located?? Be nice if it was in your profile. I have a number of A frames that I would sell. I am in NE Illinois.
