A63228/9, what are they?

Howdy Folks,

I need help finding out what two long pieces of wood I have are used for. There numbers are A63228/9, what are they called? What type of Model A are they used in?

Starting with the number A-63228, the 63xxx means the part originated with model 60-A, B, or C. Similarly, A-63228 or x32xx places it in the "roof" category. In this case they are the right and left roof rails over the doors and only fit the 60-A and B leather backs. If they are original parts and have no suffix then they are the first of two versions made.

It's important to note that some similar parts will "cross over" to higher body type numbers. For example there will be SOME A-61xxx, 62xxx, or 63xxx numbered parts that were also used in other Briggs Fordors like the 155-B, D Town Sedans as well as 165-B, D, and 170-A, B Fordor models and as such carry the same 6xxxx number. However the part ORIGINATED with the 60-A.

As a simpler example, look up the part number for a complete RH door for a 76-A Open Cab. You will find the number A-35455. 35xxx indicates it was also used on the 35-A Phaeton which was numerically the lowest body type number the door was compatible with when it was first introduced.

Awesome photos! I collect NOS Ford parts, but don't have any NOS wood in it's original crate.

What's interesting is the "Fordson, Michigan" address. Fordson became part of Dearborn in June, 1928. I'm sure Ford held out a little longer than the others by still using the Fordson name tho.
