Default What do you do with the underside of the hood after bodywork?

Ok, so my sheetmetal is rougher than the rockies and I'm no metal finisher, so what does a person do with the underside of hoods that get shiny paint? When your hood is open at shows all the sins are on display!

Prepare it and paint as you would any other part of the sheet metal. If you use fillers, use them.

So, bodywork the inside too. I always thought people started with mint sheetmetal

To make it a little less noticeable you could give it a coat of spray can texture like undercoating or chip guard then mix a flattening agent with your color coat. It will be the same color but have no gloss. It'll help some.

Some people claim that the Heat/cooling cycle of the engine with the hood closed will cause body filler to crack or fall off. I can't say that I have had that happen. Since I don't build 100 point restorations I go for the textured semi flat look as well.
Clean and neat is my thing under the hood.
Torchie.

I can't imagine a thin coat of filler, properly applied would come off beneath a hood any quicker than a hot (thing a sunny day) fender top.

The hood is one place you cant hide poor body work with the mud bucket. Metal finish it.

I've done the texture paint in the past but I am going to try truck bed coating on my next one. It has the same look but added durability. I would think the concern with underhood bondo would be if someone happened to slam it, or repeatedly slammed it, the putty could fall off.

Its to the point where some hi-build primer should take care of most of it, and it just so happened I had a new bottle of flattening agent for my paint so it'll get dulled up a bit.

More than a car (fenders, etc.) being bounced up and down on an average road?
I won't allow putty to be used in my cars. To me it's kind of like "cheating". However, I have seen many that have and it has appeared, when properly applied, to hold up quite well.

The undersides of the hood were never polished, at the factory. So, you don't have to be as particular.
