Potvin Cam

Anyone have any specs on a Potvin 3/8 cam. ? Is it too much for a 8BA bored to 3 5/16 with a 3 3/4” stroke. ?

I can get you the specs tomorrow, but I run a Potvin 3/8ths cam in my 292 ci motor in an AV8 roadster. I absolute love this cam. It has great low down torque and will break the tires loose in 2nd if you floor it. Great power all through the RPM range. I am also running a Weber flywheel and the motor whapps at the crack of the throttle.

Pete would know best, but I've read that this cam like 276 ci or more.

Yes. It was ground by Bill Jenks. That said, I also have two Kiwi L100’s that I am itching to run.

Ex. 71-29
Lift .375
Duration 280
In cl .010
Ex cl .012

Lopey idle. Excellent mid range power.


It is not too much cam for that engine. Best use at least 3 carbs and hot ignition.

Interesting you say that, Pete. Right now I have run it with an Edelbrock Slingshot
and I'm thinking it needs more CFM.

Most of the ones I have had to do with ran 4 48's with straight linkage.

If you do that, be careful the first time you stab it. The car is going to go sideways.

That's the plan. I have a Tattersfield hi-rise 4X2 that I plan to put on it.

I acquired this several years ago. A friend made this probably 40 years ago . He’s since passed away and I bought it from his son probably 15 years ago. Makes for good garage art.

Hi Tubman:

I didn't take down from the wall, but it's not as high as a Thickstun, etc., its runners are 4.5" tall. They made it in two versions. A low rise and a high rise. This is the high rise version.

Well I'll be damned. I've been around for a long time and have seen a lot of intakes, but this is a new one on me. I will say in my defense that I've never been too interested in exotic old intakes because of the price factor involved.

I used to get a regrind of that cam from Baxter Ford Parts. Used it in several motors. Worked great. Don't think they're doing that anymore?
