Need a Mascot Cast

I used to do jewelry work in college and art later. I've Now done a mascot of my springer in wax would like my noble dog immortalized on my model A radiator cap.

Does anyone know a Barn member or firm that will do one off castings or a small number in the pewter like substance of which the Ouails made. I have checked net and haven't been successful.

I have often wanted to do the same thing but my priorities are that I should get my car back on the road again before I start such a project.

Not in pewter but in Stainless steel... Every year at HERSHEY there is a small company that does such work. Door handles, mascots , radiator caps ..A friend of mine had a rare right side tail light bracket for this 1933 Buick done. Someone might know the company or has A vendors list for Hershey.They did do a Quail but it came out a little smaller.

I recall reading threads about casting some parts that several guys were doing , but after some thought I think it was on the HAMB .

You might ask over there if anyone could cast you some .

You might think of having it done on a 3-D Printer. It will turn out in a plastic material. You could then paint it to match your dog.
They details are very intricate. A copy of a monkey wrench, actually works.
You might GOOGLE to find someone, who does it commercially.

I went to the HAMB to look and I searched ,,,,,casting sand ,,,and I found lots of threads on making small parts and ornaments.

I take it you are somewhat familiar with the process of lost wax casting. I made lost wax and investment castings for many years. If I were you I certainly would not want to commit my original sculpted wax to an unknown founder. As you know, one chance and it is gone ('lost'). I would seriously consider making a polymer mold from the original and injection molding multiple waxes first, using a suitable casting (not carving) wax. Multiples could easily be tree'd.

Original quails were not pewter. They were low air-pressure cast in a Zinc alloy using metal molds, similar to the process used for cast aluminum pistons. Some of the Zinc alloys ('pot metal') can also be cast in reusable high-temp silicone rubber molds, but they are very difficult to work in gypsum based lost wax molds for reasons I won't elaborate on.

For material I certainly would also avoid stainless for several reasons- Highest shrinkage rate, 1/4 to 5/16" per foot, expensive as it requires a shop with induction melting equip, and not as easily worked post-cast as copper based alloys. If you want a direct-to-white alloy that can be mass-media finished and polished, I'd go with a white brass like CA#997 (a.k.a. White Thombasil) or CA#9975 (Higher Manganese) or a German (20% Nickel) silver alloy like CA#976, sometimes referred to as 'dairy bronze'. If you later decide you want an overplate like Nickel, Gold, or Chrome it is easy on these alloys. If you know you are going to plate, just use an 80-20 red tin bronze. Plating stainless steel is a problem, as it requires passivating to remove the bonded surface oxygen.

Here is one picture of the wax so far. The specks are packing foam that are attracted to the wax for some reason

There was a guy in AZ that use to frequent the board that cast a bunch of stuff and sold as jewelry like zenith carb and such. He made a chicken COUPE. Does anybody remember? If I recall he was restoring a crate A maybe.

Clyde Ross Morgan does some terrific work and has a web site easy to find by name. Model A sculptures that look like die cast in bronze
