Default 1931 SLANT WINDOW Fordor Questions

Are there any websites for the 1931 Slant Window that may give tips on restoring these bodies? Are there pitfalls that one should know about before removing rain gutters and things. I'd rather learn about others mistakes before anything gets damaged. Thanks. Bob

Bob, contact me off-line with specific questions if you like as we have restored 8 or 9 of them over the years. I will tell you up front that you don't want to remove the drip rails unless there is an absolute reason too as they are an integral stamped piece of the body.

If yours is a Town Sedan there is a "Model A Ford Town Sedan Club" complete with Facebook page and newsletter/magazine.
Just google it as noted above and it will provide you with links and additional information.

Cowl lights, woodgrained window trim and dash rail, some have a fold down center arm rest for the rear seat, and the T/S has a rear oval light, over the rear seat, rather than the center mounted round light.

When Ford built the 31 Slant Window he had Murray and Briggs build the bodies the same so parts were interchangeable. There are some telltale differences such as Briggs used d-nuts on the fire wall and Murray used caged nuts on the firewall. Also Brigg had a manufactures mark the Briggs “Bug” on the cowl and on some production parts. See the attached photo showing the “Bug’ on the RF cowl.

The 160A. The Ford Standard Fordor Sedan had scrolled door and window handles, painted molding around the windows and painted front dash; the dome light was centered in the car with a switch on the light and a rubber mat in the driver's compartment.

The 160B. The Ford Town Sedan had a pull rope on the back of the front seat, simple non scrolled door and window handles, wood grained molding (with a scalloped lower frame ) wood grained front dash, the dome light was over the back window and was controlled by a sliding switch on the door post, cowl lights and carpet.

The 160C. The Ford Deluxe Fordor Sedan - Same as the 160B but no rear quarter window, referred to as a blind back.

I can't find any website outside of Facebook which makes me wonder how active they are. This link is from the MAFCA website and is an interesting newsletter from them.

https://www.mafca.com/downloads/Chap...ans%202012.pdf

Hope that helps

While we were parked on the lawn at the Le May collection, Plucker, Tom Moniz and I wandered around to compare rain gutters on Slants. It appears there are two types, curved and squared. Murrays have squared rain gutters, and Briggs are curved. They are integral to the body ( welded?) and cannot be removed.

The difference in the drip rails is when they were produced and was not a Murray/Briggs/Ford related issue.
