how does oil get to valve springs and lifters
Started tearing down engine looking for engine noise, think it might be a rod not right .but there was very little oil in the valve chamber galley,i had wipped it pretty dry the other day while adjusting the valves and it was still about the same when i took the intake manifold off,it has been run several minutes and oil pressure has been up good, but varies about 1 lb and holds at about 21 lbs when hot,how does the chamber get oil????

Re: how does oil get to valve springs and lifters
i assume the tube in bottom of galley has holes in the bottom of it to dist the oil .the oil pressure spring had some pressur on it when i removed the large nut on top,not a whole lot but some.the plug was behind the timming gear ,i looked when timming gear was off. just about positive the rear plug was there when i put fw on. also no oil was blowing out of fuel pump hole when i removed the fp push rod with engine running

Re: how does oil get to valve springs and lifters
Don'r worry about it, there will be plenty of oil and oil mist thrown up the the spring area after the engine has been run for a time. Walt

Re: how does oil get to valve springs and lifters
Yes the baffels are in place.pulled plugs and spun the engine ,,no oil pressure with spring out,oil come to top where plug goes but no pressure, put plunger and spring in had about 15 lbs pressure maybe there is no problem here, just thought there should be more oil in the chamber, this is a 58ab.

Re: how does oil get to valve springs and lifters
on an 59ab eng there is oil pressure in the fuel push rod bushing if you remove the push rod & pull the camshaft foward you can see the hole to the cam bearing oil is delivered under pressure through the cam bearing . if you remove the rod & run an elect pump you must plug the bushing.when you look at the cam bushing there is two holes. the must be lined up right larger of the two holes faces up

Re: how does oil get to valve springs and lifters
There is pressure around the bushing for the pushrod. Not open to the engine and there is no need to plug anything when removing the pushrod. The holes in the cam bearing must be properly oriented so the pushrod will go through. The rear main bearing is oiled by a passage directly from the back of the block from the pump chamber while the other two are from drillings from the oil tube in the valley.

Re: how does oil get to valve springs and lifters
Yes, on the 8BA engine only, the 59 bushing does not have a hole in the bushing. The hole in the 8BA bushing is only about 1/16, it does not efect the oil pressure, but it will squirt a mist of oil up the hole so most of us old engine builders plug the hole in the 8BA block. Walt

Re: how does oil get to valve springs and lifters
I think that long running at idle will do more harm to cam,By low rpms I think it wears the cam.So listen to the engine run and shut it down.My 2 cents.

Re: how does oil get to valve springs and lifters
from what i hear, there is pressure on the pipe running thru the valve chamber, does this pressure show up on the pressure tap where i have my gauge and the sending unit goes? About 18lbs after warm.
