Default running board trim

What is the best way to polish or lighten the zinc running board trim and the door sill plate that has Ford on them? Is there anyway to repair cracks in the zinc?

I think i read that vinegar works well as it is slightly acidic.

I'm thinking years ago we used vinigar to pickle gutters turning them black, they were galvinized which contained a high content on zinc I won't use this stick to the polish or maybe 1500 sandpaper then polish

Vinigar on a very "fine-grit" Scotch-Brite Pad. Then immediately use a water-wetted cloth to remove the acidic vinigar residue. Polish to suit with polish of choice.

Why didn't Henry make this troublesome part out of stainless! What better location to use a tough, stain and corrosion-resistant material? (Rhetorical question....)

If the surface is very clean, solder on the back side will work. Gar Williams
