Default LA/ San Fran Stopover /UK Trip (Not Model A )

This morning I paid for our family trip to the UK in July (at about 2/3rds the cost of a another Model A!) . It includes a 2 day stopover in LA going and a day in San Francisco on the way back. Disneyland and Universal Studios are on my teenage kids wishlist -Is there any thing old car related I should "suggest we see" Bearing in mind time will be short ( and we may be a little jetlagged after our long flight from New Zealand when we get to LA). John would like to catch up with you in the UK -Karl

I would hate to drive my Model A 45 minutes west of San Francisco. Pretty rough terrain!

In L.A. Petersons Auto Museum on Wilshire and LaBrea blvds. lots of other museums and attractions in that general area, eg. The Farmers Market, LaBrea tar pits, hollywood attractions, Graumens Chinese Theater, Stars footprints in the sidewalk etc. There is a world class planetarium close by also in Griffith park, the park also has a zoo (I think) and railroad museum

Two things not too far away in San Diego: the world-class San Diego Zoo, and the Queen Mary ship. And, as it is the major U.S. Naval base on the west coast, there are probably some good things to see there. Check the internet, and "Welcome to the USA" after one of the longest jet flights in the world!

The Queen Mary is in Long Beach, not San Diego.

In SF, drive north over the Golden Gate Bridge into Marin County, and visit Muir Woods EARLY IN THE MORNING. Your family (teens included) will never forget it.

I take it you're flying Air NZ. The inflight entertainment system has gotten very good on the long haul flights. I don't think your teens will be bored.

My 17 year old son had a school trip for 3 weeks to France last year . Was airsick the entire 15 hours to LA and 12 hours to London-Hopefully we won't get a repeat this trip .The trip itself doesn't worry me. but Terrorists and other mad people make me think a little -Karl

If I was flying Qantas, I'd be more worried about engine detonation

I think the chances of anything funny with an Air NZ flight would be nil.

My kids are flying out to Tokyo on Sunday, with their grandmother, to visit some family working there. My 12yr old daughter was badly sick doing the same run last year, so you have my sympathy.

Cheers
Mike.

Do you know where in LA you are staying for the two days?
I live in El Segundo, right next door to the airport. If you are staying at the Hacienda Hotel (or any hotel in El Segundo. It's a small town) there is an Automobile Driving Museum two blocks away. Probably 100 cars.
As you get closer to your trip, post a message with the details. My wife and I always enjoy visiting with guests from down under. They were wonderful to us and we return the favor.

Carl,

Sounds like a fun trip you all have planned. If you are worried about the "terrorists and other mad people", then you probably should not be posting your travel plans on the open internet! (especially not the dates when you will be gone.)

That is unfortunately the world we live in today....

Fordially,
