Default Speedometer cable?

I need a speedometer cable for a 35 Ford pickup, six feet long, Dolphin Speedometer one end, Ford C4 trans on the other. The cables I looked at on Ebay don't look right on the trans end. Mine has a rubber ring around the drive end and secures with the clamp. Any ideas? Ajohn

Might just have one made at a speedometer shop.

Ford up to about 1968 has the ends that you are looking for, speedo end has ferrule like attachment and the trans end has the type the the gear is held on by a clip. However, I doubt any are 6 feet long, longest one I've seen is 65 inches. Check with a Mustang parts supplier, also another look on ebay. Try Mustang (or any other model) speedometer cable.

You might have to have one made up. Speedo shop, Hemmings or Google speedometer cables.

The cable on my '50 is about 70-71 inches long. It also has the o-ring on the trans end. I purchased a replacement at C & G. They also have them at Dennis Carpenters.

Try your local Napa Auto parts store. Both of the ends you need are common to your application and they can look one up to give you the right length.

Good advice. When you enter the parts store, look for the oldest counter guy.

Look up a 70s maverick or mustang on napaonline they give the length. Used a maverick one on my 52 panel with a c4. They are 66 inches long and $21.

Hi,

I'd recommend talking to Rusty at http://www.speedoservice.com/home.html.
I had a short custom length cable made to go from my Columbia speedo "transmission" to the turtle on the torque tube a couple of weeks ago. The cable was exactly what I wanted and was shipped very quickly, all very reasonable.

Any cable for a car prior to 1957 will not work in a 57 and later trans. 57 was the year Ford went to a new design at the trans end.
