A governor limits the RPMs of an engine and by reduceing the RPMs also reduces speed. This was made for trucks and equiptment to reduce engine wear and keep drivers from speeding. If you are the driver of the vehicle it has no real purpose as you are the one paying the repair bill if you abuse the engine. I have several but to me they are only collector items. G.M.

It depends on what state you live in. I don't think my governor is all that good, but we are getting another one next month.

Merry Christmas

As GM said governors keep engines from overspeeding, but they do more than that. Governors on industrial engines keep the engine within its optimal power range and provide a much steadier pull. Think of a tractor that is moving over unsteady ground operating against a constantly changing load. How could you constantly adjust the throttle to keep the engine properly fed? I've run twin engine Cat scrapers, large farm tractors, over the road trucks, etc. There is no way one could constantly manipulate the footfeeds or hand throttles as the governor does.

It depends upon whether you want a completely original engine..I know they put them on early ford trucks to limit the rpm before ford came out with the 337 flathead which I have been told was a converted lincoln engine
