Default How to tell if 12V or 6V bulb?

Got a zip lock bag full of bulbs, how do I know if 12V or 6V? Wouldn't they all light up with 6V battery?

Apply 6 volts. If it burns dim its a 12 volt If it burns bright.....

Yeah... The 'other' way is to put 12V on them. The ones that burn out quickly are 6V.

There are readable numbers on them but don't match numbers in vendor catalogs. Guess I'll light them up & see what happens.

search the net for the numbers. I did this a few years ago, but don't remember the web site. I think I typed 6 volt bulb # chart into the search eng.

Bob H , had to laugh as that's the first thing that went through my mind about testing, put 12 volts to it and when they puff and go out you know they were 6 volt,

I stopped at my local auto parts store and asked the new counter guy if he could get me some 6 volt bulbs that were made in the US. He looked at me like I had two heads and said "I don't think so". I then went to the local motorcycle shop and asked if they could get some. The counter guy looked and said he could order some from a US company. I put down the money and when I went to pick them up they were made in China. I'm out of my NOS bulbs and apparently they aren't made here anymore. Bummer!!!
