Default 40 ford problems

This afternoon, while at a friends place I discovered I have no mounting hole for the yoke that holds the front fenders. It's location is important for a good fit on the fenders. I don't know if it is possible to get some kind of measurement from the crossmember forward. And then one down from the frame rails, (like in the picture).
I bought this car as a basket case and it was already apart so I didn't know about the yoke mount. It also looks like the pulleys are in the way. There is not a lot of room in the engine compartment on a 40 ford!
Thanks Chuck.

Chuck, Bob Drake makes a frame mounted fender bracket to replace the yoke. The part # is HR-16138, and mounts the fenders and inner panels in the right place. Easy fix for about $45.00 I think.

Chuck if you have an 8BA in your 40, you can't use the stock "Y' bracket because the crank pulley is in the way. I made some brackets out of
1/8 x1x1 angle iron shaped like an "L'. and used stock holes and inner fender panels in the frame to mount them. Work great. If you can make them yourself cost will be about $2. Photo is below.

I agree.... but make sure the frame you have under the engine is passenger v8....had a frame for a 40 pickup one time for a 6 cylinder,,,,the front cross member in front was shallower and not as deep....beautiful motor and chassis...good luck.....gump

I had the same problem when I put a mustang front crossmember in. (orig. not a kit) I had taken an effort to locate the original yoke bolt hole and then made brackets that went to the frame and crossmember. I have the 8ba and machined the pulley so there was space. Also fit the yoke cross member around the pulley. Pics here might help. Good luck and I feel it is extremely important to brace the fenders to keep them from sagging.

Here is what I did on my pickup. You can shim them to align the front sheet metal to the hood.

And these on my coupe.
