Stripped oil pan nut
The far rear but on my oil pan seems to be stripped. Back by the starter. Can I make this oversize with the pan on? What is the next size up? Photo below.

Re: Stripped oil pan nut
Not sure. I wondered this too. But all of the other ones torqued just fine. I could t even get this one snug.

Drill and tap new threads. Be sure to get the location correct. I just looked at a spare, to hard to put a nut inside. And I hesitate to go oversize. Karl |

Re: Stripped oil pan nut
Possibly take out the starter and use longer bolt and a nut

Re: Stripped oil pan nut
Ok so I ran a tap through it (original size) and then I was able to torque it. Not sure it will hold but we’ll see. Normally I’d take the pan off and tap it correctly, but I already took the pan off once for another screw up and dont want to do it again unless I absolutely have to…which I’m sure at some point I’ll need to do at that point I’ll repair correctly next time it’s off. The first time I torqued the pan down it torqued down fine so this is somewhat strange. I tried two different bolts that wouldn’t torque until I ran the tap through.
