When in doubt; leave it out!

Since you asked for my opinion, I will tell you. I think a stone guard detracts from the beauty of most Model A's. Too many people are trying to dress up their cars by installing stone guards, cowl lights, and extra side mounts. Henry and Edsel designed a beautiful car. I have driven a Model A for over 30 years on dirt and paved roads and I have never had a radiator damaged.

I pray the Model A hearse that carries me away doesn't have a stone guard on it.

Now cowl lights, I'd argue the point,

and extra side mounts...
But that's one I agree with. I don't even like the one I have, just don't know where else to put it on a pickup.

Will the screen material melt at radiator temp? I doubt it but I am concerned that it might restrict the air flow. My engine I am now running is so sensitive to temp, gas richness, and overheating under a load that I really wonder if a screen over the fins would restrict the air enough to be unwise. I guess I will have to try it once my new engine is broken in.

A friend has one of those point and read heat guns to measure temp and can tell the differences in different parts of a radiator. Before I install it and after I install the screen should give me the answer.

Anybody got thoughts on how much door screen would restrict airflow om a Model A radiator?

We, too, have those "lovebugs" in Florida. Just ask yourself, "how much will the LOVEBUGS restrict the airflow on your radiator ?".

Seems like I remember that most all of the cars when I was growing up in Arizona had screen wire in front of the radiator, even the cars that didn't have exposed radiatiors. A lot of time when taking a trip, you'd see the entire front of the car with screen wire across it. Then the biggest problem was getting the windshield clean!

I have run a stone guard on the phaeton for 48 years and would not be with out. But I don't run one on my sedan so you can have it either way as far as I'm concerned. But I think go for it if you like it make it happen!

Thats what is so nice about them, easy on easy off, if I'm going to be runnin gravel roads or is in the fall when the hunters are pushing the pheasants then I put mine on, and yes I've bagged almost as many birds with my vehicles than with a shotgun. I like my truck without it though.
