Re: In defense of 6 cylinders
Today, trucks use an apportioned tag with a cab card that shows what states a commercial truck is legal to haul in and you have to keep mileage documents so at the end of the year each state gets their chunk of the taxes . Also involves your IFTA sticker usdot number, icc ,mci blah blah blah Prior to that you had to register and tag your rig for each state your ran in hence all the license plates and fuel stickers.

Somewhere I read that the 254 flathead six was used in school busses as well through 1953.

Re: In defense of 6 cylinders
We never saw six cylinder engines in Ford trucks here til the mid fifties. I've read that the 8 EL 337 Lincoln flathead was offered in the big Ford trucks and later on they also got the Y block before Ford cars did.

Re: In defense of 6 cylinders
Does anyone know what engine a '50's White semi tractor used? I remember seeing one a few months ago, that a friend had repainted and flipped. Don't think he rebuilt the drivetrain. If I remember correctly, it was a flathead six, with over 500 cubic inch displacement. Probably a torque monster!

Irrelevant but, I had a White "city tractor" in '78. It had a 200 hp, OHV, 400 6.
