'50 front motor mounts
I went to bolt the new motor mounts to the water pumps and noticed that there's rubber covering both sides around the bolt holes. Doesn't seem right to me that a bolt that's supposed to be torqued should be floating in rubber. I checked the mounts that I'm replacing and they're the same, though I don't think they're original. I'm tempted to cut the rubber away from the contact surfaces. Does anyone have an original they can check to see if they were made this way?

Re: '50 front motor mounts
I have several replacement biskets and they mount on a steel plate imbeded into the rubber. Is there a steel plate under the rubber?

Re: '50 front motor mounts
Hi Ron, These aren't the biscuit type mounts, These are the ones going on my '50. Looking at them from the front or rear, there "C" shaped. I wire brushed the rubber off one of the old ones to expose the metal plate. It's 1/8" thick. I just can't see trying to tighten a 3/8 bolt while crushing rubber.

Re: '50 front motor mounts
I have one used pair that show no rubber covering the pump mounting area. I would contact Cris over at Shoebbox Central for more info.

Re: '50 front motor mounts
I think that's just excess rubber left over from the manufacturing process. I usually remove it from the mounting surface. JMO

Re: '50 front motor mounts
I guess my concern was legit. They're going on today after I clean the rubber off the mating surfaces. Thanks,

Re: '50 front motor mounts
That is just overflow from the vulcanizing process. If very thin I just put them in that way. If too thick for proper instal just cut the excess away. Seen many like that.

Re: '50 front motor mounts
Thanks to all. They're on. I scribed the rubber across water pump side and removed excess rubber with wire wheel. Used, small, drill mounted stone backwards through opposite side to scuff away enough rubber around hole to make room for socket. Came out great.
