Default DeLuxe AA ambulance

I don't know if this has been seen here yet. It's the DeLuxe AA with the stainless grille and spoke wheels. It also has a siren to replace the horn, fenders painted over, probably red and fender lamps.

It was part of the MAFCA article about the HOOVER dam when it was being built.

My very first vehicle when I was 14 years old was an AA 280A like the one pictured above.

Very nice looking AA Truck... Put seats in it and a over sized Fordor or today's SUV.

This picture and a shot of the rear of that ambulance are in the commercial vehicles thread.

That's what I did. Was able to register it as a passenger vehicle rather than a commercial vehicle. And for a teenager in the '50s that was a big deal dollar wise.

That was long before the "SUV" designation became vogue, but the guy at the county clerk's office that was doing the title change from truck to passenger vehicle, put on the title "Country Squire" for body type.

Neither my Dad nor I really knew what we had at that time. Then, it was just a large, heavy, underpowered vehicle. It weighed right at twice what a Fordor weighed and, of course, had the same engine. But with that 4-speed "granny" transmission, it would climb trees though! Later in life, I discovered that I had one of only 80 or so ever built. Hindsight is always 20-20!

In 1955, my neighbor, Sherman Porter, bought the local funeral parlor's 1930 hearse that was built on the same chassis. It had less that 20K miles on it and it was still like new. Sherman cut the body down and he made a flat bed truck out of it. I could have cried when he did that. I learned to drive in that truck. I always wanted to own it and it has been sold three times since then without the sellers ever contacting me. It still has its original wire wheels and still has its low mileage on the odometer. I remember well when the funeral parlor still used it in their services. As typical, it spent more time being polished, than it was ever driven.
