Question new cragar wheels

i have a new set of cragar wheels, steel hoop, aluminum centers. i want to "prepare" the chrome for either painting or powder coating. i tried a chrome shop and was told they couldn't strip them cause their method would attack and destroy the aluminum. i can sand blast them with a fine black beauty type of sand but i'm not sure this will leave a surface that will make for good adherence. any ideas? thanks guys.

I would go with powder coating, rather than painting them.
Call your powder coater and ask them how to prepare the wheels.

I powder coated quite a few motorcycle parts that were chrome. Sand blasted the chrome first to give some bite, then powdercoated. Never had any problems with powder coming off after 8 years.
