Default 1953 fan assembly

Fan assembly seems to be leaking from back of shaft. Filled with 80 weight lube used procedure to fill let excess drain out but leaking from back of shaft with engine not running. Took apart theres no seal on end of shaft what keeps lube in? Was it over filled?Pulled shaft out seems to be in good shape. Wasnt able to get 2nd section apart but isnt leaking there.

Can you post a photo of the fan assembly you are working on?
Does it look like this? It comes with a grease fitting. I wonder if you could fill the internal assembly with Cornhead Grease as it doesn't thin out and leak?

I noticed my fan assembly doesn't have a seal to prevent leakage at the rear of the hub.

Perhaps John Deere Cornhead Grease would be a good lubricant as it's thixotropic.

I used 30# engine oil and if you over fill it it will just throw the excess out the rear until it has the correct amount. There is no seal and it circulates the oil when running via a screw type pumping system. Tim
