Default Front Motor Mounts

When I removed the front engine mount from my pickup I found a large hole in the frame where the mount attaches (See Photo)
There was a large washer used to cover the hole. I assume the hole is the result of wear. Is ther a fix for this problem?

Thanks

Bob

I don't see any photo here, but you can weld it up, or have a professional welder do it if you are not an experienced welder. You want it done right, y'know, i.e. properly centered without buggering up the cross member. The original hole is somewhat large...just guessing from memory here, but its probably 5/8ths inch or thereabouts.

That large hole is for a special brass bushing. Look it up online with one of the parts suppliers.

I think this was caused by more than just wear!

Without replacing the whole cross member, you need to weld in a patch.

Been there. Our Roadster's front crossmember had spidery cracks, too. After some welding, grinding, and paint, it looked a lot better. You'd have to know what you were looking for to know there had ever been a problem. Anyway, the weight of the engine sits on the spring steel bracket that bridges the hole.
Golden?
No. The brass gromet positions the engine. My crossmember still had too big a hole.
So, I installed a Float A Motor front motor mount.
(Hey, I hear that hissing and clucking. Cut it out ladies ... )
I do consider it a temporary fix and I've already purchased a really nice frame to set the car on ... next winter. But the "temporary" fix is ready for three or four thousand miles' fun THIS SUMMER.

Oh, this hole?? That's horrible. Have it welded up by a professional unless you are a good welder. It should be much smaller, even if you use the brass bushing, which Henry abandoned early on.

It appears to me, that the original owner tried to enlarge the original hole diameter, by using a cutting torch, rather than using a larger size drill bit. This was done, to either provide additional clearance between the front engine mount stud, which was to aleviate squeeks, or to provide the proper size hole for the newer style of front mount system, which uses the brass bushing. Get a professional welder to repair the hole.

Thanks for all the input. I need to get the dimensions for the size and location of the hole required

our fix was simple find a lager washer bore the inside hole 1/2 install the brass fitting (synders has them) set your motor and tranny in for alinement's then weld the washer around the outer hole. if you want super fit you can cut out for the large washer and weld and grind to fit. if a driver welding from the bottom side made mine strong and looked neat too. good luck al
