Default Inside Mirror Bracket for 31 Dlx Roadster - Black, or Chromed?

Seeking clarification on the inside mirror bracket for the Deluxe Roadster. When I acquired this unrestored vehicle, it had a black bracket with the sellers comment "don't let anyone tell you it was chromed".

1. Vendor catalogues sell chromed inside mirror brackets for the Dlx Roadster.
2. Pg 84 of the "How to Restore Your Model A -Vol 6" indicates the bracket as black.
3. The JS on 10-6 indicates the bracket as chrome, yet the "K" illustration on 10-7 refers to the outside mirror.

Can anyone clarify? Black, or Chrome? Thanks!

I think the outside mirror is all that was supplied on the deluxe roadster,
the JS does not show an inside mirror.

Bob,
It appears you are correct in than the JG's only shows deluxe roadsters having an outside mirror. It is hard to believe they didn't also have an inside mirror. Maybe some Deluxe roadster owner will post a better answer.

There is no inside mirror for the DELUXE ROADSTER or DELUXE PHAETON. If you were to ADD a inside mirror you would need a STANDARD mirror bracket and paint it black... there was NO chrome inside mirror bracket for those 2 open car models.

I would think that since the JS do not mention an inside mirror, yet it's a required safety item in most likely every State of the Union now, it's not judged and thus up to personal interpretation. Had Ford supplied an inside mirror on the Deluxe Roadsters and Deluxe Phaetons, I'd assume it would have been stainless steel, whereas it would have been black on the standard siblings.

This is strange to me.
Why did FORD not put an inside mirror on the two deluxe open cars ? Does anyone know ?
Thank you,

The inside mirror blocks your view with the lowered delux windshield. That may be the reason.

Again there was NO inside mirror for both D-Roadster or D-Phaeton no not even in STAINLESS .....Only the left side stanchion with the outside mirror. Having a windshield mirror does not help that much because the rear mirror[ window] is smaller then the standard rear mirror[ window] .And maybe that's why some people put dual spare tires [right side] so they can have mirrors on the tires. Better yet , i tried to drive my D-Phaeton with side curtains....... you are better off driving a sub...

Mirrors on side mounts are too far away and vibrate too much to be of any use.

They are simply Chicago bling!

Archive photos that I have viewed do not show an inside mirror on the Dlx Roadster.

Pg 84 of the "How to Restore Your Model A -Vol 6" indicates the inside mirror bracket as an (accessory) and black for the 40-B Dlx and also used on the 35-B, 76-B, 180-A.

Which all seems to verify the previous posts. Thanks for your help.

Interesting......I did not know the roadsters came without inside rear view mirrors. Ours has a chrome one which is very useful to view cars behind us even through the small window in the convertible top. We have the drivers side stanchion mirror which is also useful. However, I agree with Tom Wesenberg that the dual sidemount mirrors are useless because of excessive vibration.......but they look cool even though they may not be original.

FYI- All Model A Pickups and AA trucks ONLY came with a left side outside mirror and NO interior mirror as well.

That is something I never could figure out.......why Ford didn't give the trucks an inside mirror?

Thumbs up Re: Inside Mirror Bracket for 31 Dlx Roadster - Black, or Chromed?

I run the typical re-pop mirrors on the sidemounts of my '29 roadster. I added a chrome spacer to each stem that raised the mirrors approx. an
inch. Yes they do vibrate, but by raising them they do give me a better view of the rear and I use them. I also use the windwing clip on mirrors and the extra wide center windshield rear view mirror. After riding a Harley for many years. I found that knowing what is going on all around me at any given time while on the road is a life saver!
