Default Radiator Stone Guard

is it worth spending the $ for this item ? Don't really like the looks of it, but is it good to protect the new radiator?

I personally think they are attractive and get many compliments. If you don't like it let it go. They were especially beneficial when driving on unimproved roads when a passing car threw a big hunk of gravel into your rad. Why would you ever put something on your car you not like .?? Wayne

I would mainly put it on the car for protection of the radiator, as far as the looks, its ok, but I think it looks more original without it.

Leave it off and don't follow too closely. The only problem with that is so many bad drivers on the road pass and cut in short.

Everyone's in a hurry to be somewhere else.

I think they are fine looking if that's your style. My tudor is plain jane and that the way it will stay...If there was some black guard that blended in, I might consider it from a protection view. I had a 92' Ford explorer and made a guard to protect from rocks.

Hot rodders often use a plastic screen on the radiator to keep the bugs out. Those screens may also offer some protection from small stones and are easily removable.

I had a head on with a 70 MPH ORANGE Dragonfly while going 60 MPH in Minerva!! He rode with his head STUCK in the fins for a week! Then I discovered the BENT FINS!! Would a STONE GUARD have helped?

I hit a pidgon at 70mph in my 79' VW scirocco... the bird hit the VW logo and then hit the radiator...

I invested in re-plating this period Stone Guard and had it on the 31" for a short time. It attaches with spring clips through the rad that are hidden from view, unlike today's reproductions.

But, then I couldn't see the nice paint and rad underneath, so off it came. Now it's gaudy garage wall art.

Would you like to sell it the way it is ? If so send me an email. Wayne

I have one on my A. Number one reason is I have a good original radiator and don't want it ruined by a piece of flying gravel. Number two, I LIKE the look. It is stainless so not quite as bright as chrome but requires less work than chrome to stay nice.

We have five model A Fords. I have a stone guard on only one of them, and that is on our 1930 Standard Phaeton. The radiator guard looks better than getting a damaged radiator, so I am glad to have the guard on our phaeton's radiator. The phaeton gets serious road miles. The rest of our model A Fords just hang around town.

Wonder how Vermin, my Avatar Car, would look like with a powder coated stone guard? "Maybe" body color, or a Satin Black or a Shiny Black or a Satin Silver??
Vermin has a PERFECT Isaac Kramer reproduction radiator from somewhere in the '30's & I'd like to protect it.
Our guys agree that the worst culprits for throwing rocks are motor homes & such, that have those WIDE "brushes" on the rear, that touch the roadway!
