Model A rear fenders questions
What is the easiest way to tell what body style rear fenders fit especially a '30-'31?? Other than taking some guy's word for it?? Do they measure smaller across the top from body side out to the edge?
Also, Coupes and Roadsters took the same rear fenders correct?? Should originals have the serrated type cut edge on the lip around the wheel well opening, that you can feel with a fingernail vs. Howell sheetmetal repops that should be smooth? Muchas gracious or a thank you facsimile thereof |

Re: Model A rear fenders questions
Jeff, What body style do you have? I'm too new to Mod.A s to give you a really definitive answer, but as a horseback guess, I believe that the wide fenders were used on Coupes, Roadster, cabriolets, and Pick ups and the narrower fenders were used on 2 DR and 4 Dr sedans. The serrations are marks from a shrinking die that was used when the wire bead was installed in the manufacture of the fender. Correct me if I'm wrong about any of the above.

Re: Model A rear fenders questions
The 30/31's have a wider opening for the wheel. Plus, the coupe/roadsters are wider than the sedans.

Re: Model A rear fenders questions
Thanks for the help!
Terry there is an estate sale coming up near me, where the owner was in the middle of a (looks to be) '31 Roadster and he couldn't finish it before he died. Also was working on a '29 Tudor. His widow is trying to guess just what all he accumulated. In the way of spare parts she couldn't identify the years he had. Mike your suggestion makes sense I have been taking some measurements and will go from there. Front fenders I understand was just unsure of the rears! |

Re: Model A rear fenders questions
This is a guess on my part, but you can group passenger and light commercial rear fenders like this:
>Coupe, Roadster, Cabriolet, Sport Coupe, Pickup Truck; >Tudors, Fordors, Victoria, 400A.

Sedans are much narrower at the top. 28-29 fenders have a minor cut to go around the splash apron at the front. 30-30 have a deep cut with the top at a right angle to the vertical. All very distinct differences. Repro fenders will have less defined dimples from the beading machine. They also have a thin sheet metal re-enforcement that is not well defined where the bolts go for the running board. Also they bead tends to flare out at the bottom edge. |

Re: Model A rear fenders questions
I never knew that, so aside from the splash apron cutout a 28-29 Roadster fender is different from a 30-31? Bob
