It looks like we'll have a bunch of "Barner's" attending the Moonshine Festival this year, that's great! The Cigar City Flatheads are planning a tour of our own on the Friday before the Festival and, as a tribute to "Redneck", we'll be calling it the "Don't Follow Me, I'm Lost" tour... We'll be posting more info on the tour route as we get closer to the event. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in October.

The dates are Friday, October 25th to Sunday, October 27th. If you decide to take the tour with the Cigar City Flatheads aka the Lost Boys... We'll meet at the Old Sautee Store in Sautee-Nacoohee at 9:00am on Friday the 25th. If not, we'll see you in Dawsonville Friday evening at the swap meet at Thunder Road.

Steve and I have booked hotel rooms at the Hampton Inn in Alpharetta, GA, about 30 miles south of Dawsonville. If you are looking for a hotel/motel in the area, this might be a good spot. Here is the contact info:
Hampton Inn
16785 Old Morris Road (exit 11 on the GA 400 Highway)
Alpharetta, GA

Here's an up date on the "Don't Follow Me, I'm Lost Tour", set for Friday, October 25th. We'll meet at the Old Sautee Store in Sautee-Nacoochee, Georgia, just about 50 miles from Dawsonville, at 9:00am. We'll cruise (via the scenic rout)to Cleveland where we'll have breakfast at Ma Gooch's Restaurant. After breakfast we may stop at a restoration shop (I have not confirmed that at this time) and then drive on to Dahlonega for lunch (do you see a pattern developing here). After lunch (at one of the many fine dining establishments) we'll cruise on to Dawsonville and check out the swap meet at Thunder Road. After Thunder Road, diner is an option...

Vic, did you and Steve try to get a place closer to Dawsonville than the Hampton Inn in Alpharetta, GA or was that the closest hotel you could find?

Hi John, Steve was the first to try for a hotel/motel and he got the Hampton Inn in Alpharetta, so we opted to stay at the same place. You can most likely find lodging closer to Dawsonville at this time, as the Festival is still a way off. But you might want to hang out with the rest of us… Sure glad you are having fun driving the wheels off of the '35, Vapor Lock and all...

John Dahlonega is only about 14 miles from Dawsonville , there are motels there & highway 9 is a straight shot to Dville . Its a straight shot from Gainsville to Dahlonega also.
Cheers
Tony

It has been reported that available hotel rooms in or near Dawsonville are going for around $150.00 per night... The rate I got (with a AAA discount) is $60.00 per night. If yoiu want to check, here is the info on the hotel again:

Hampton Inn
16785 Old Morris Road (exit 11 on the GA 400 Highway)
Alpharetta, GA
678-393-0990

Also, if you would like to take part in the "Don't follow Me, I'm Lost Tour" on Friday the 25th, PM me and let me know your cell phone #. I'll send mine back to you so we can communicate in Georgia. Vic

Hi Tony, will check out hotels around Dahlonega.
I agree with you about those Cigarcity Flathead boys. They are a wild bunch or rebels driving old Fords that are not properly restored to the highest show point standards, have extremely loud dual exhausts, plus they are constantly seen on the side of the roads in the Tampa area suffering with severe cases of vapor lock and all kinds of other problems!

Hey John, you know we pride ourselves on our ingenuity... Like someone once said "if you can't fix it with Duct Tape, you're not using enough Duct Tape"... Looking forward to seeing you and having some good old Flathead Fun at the Moonshine Festival!
