1958 Ford Del Rio
Hi all, I was just wondering, why don't I ever see a 1958 Ford Del Rio for sale ? I see 57's now and then. I bought a used one about 1962 for $300.00 It had the Interseptor Eng,and I assume the Cruisematic tranny. It was fast as all get out ! Weren't there to many made ? Thanks for your reply. Now if I can get my old photo of it in this message,I'd be happy ! Thanks,Pat-New York. PS,if you don't see image, tell me how to put it on. Thanks again..

Re: 1958 Ford Del Rio
I've never heard of a 58 Del Rio,but if they did make it would have been based on a Custom 300 not a Custom such as your pic.I hope this helps.

Re: 1958 Ford Del Rio
The Ford Del Rio was a full-size station wagon produced by the Ford Motor Company in the United States for model years 1957 and 1958. The model was also marketed under the name Del Rio Ranch Wagon.

Re: 1958 Ford Del Rio
Thanks Butch, I see you have 58 in both answers,I'm assuming the first one is for 57. Now I know why I don't see them for sale, not many made. What I liked about the Del Rio was it was a two door, and guick and easy to handle ! I'd like to own another one like my old blue and white one. Who knows, maybe one day one will turn up ?

Re: 1958 Ford Del Rio
I had a 57 Del Rio years ago,and it was based on a custom 300.The difference between it and a regular custom 300 was the interior.I wonder if the Del Rio package referred to the interior. My interest was always on the 57s,so I didn't check out 58s.

Re: 1958 Ford Del Rio
You are correct. I got in a hurry I guess. It appears that Ford made other 2dr wagons. In 59 they had a 59C Tudor Ranch Wagon Station Wagon & a 59D Country Sedan 2-door Station Wagon.

Re: 1958 Ford Del Rio
Pat, I don't know if you're still checking this thread or not, but to answer your question as to why you don't see '58 Del Rio wagons for sale:
According to my production figures book (by Jerry Heasely), Ford made only 12.687 Del Rios in '58...less than any other wagon. That sounds like a lot, but 50 years after the fact, I think it's safe to say there are probably only hundreds in existence world wide... less in running condition. Keep in mind, this in an era when Ford was making about a million cars a year. There were about 36,00 Ranch Wagons made back then and about 70,000 Country Sedans (wagon) so you might set your sights on one of them. |

Re: 1958 Ford Del Rio
Thanks Jim/Ne I know there are still a few out there. About 10 years ago I had a chance to buy one that was in Ohio I think, it was the same color combo as my 58. I don't know if it had the interceptor eng or not. But mine did. You snooze, you lose !!! PS, my 59 Ford Fairlane 500 Galaxie I have now,has the 332 V-8 with the cruisematic....Pat
