Default Tillotson

I would like to ask a few Tillotson Crab questions:

What do I clean with
What do I NOT clean with
What do you use for a Plug after having drilled out old ones
I assume that drilling is the way to get the old ones out
Can the Venturi come out or is it a fixed part of the carb
I’m working on one for a fellow, the top of the Ventura has a ½ chip out of the top. It used to run well I’m told, I assume hat it already had the chip as I didn’t see any such broken parts, how bad is this problem?
The body is warped a bit, I’m understand you can bake it with a hose clamp around it to bring is together, What Temp, and how long would you recommend.
Any other advise?

I took easily 2 table spoons worth of caked dust out of this thing.

A separate email will come with a link to the pictures of this one.

Pictures of this carb can be seen at: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/j2ayegvik...ytpVUdfBGUoULa

Thank you very much

Organic solvents will cut the gas shellac deposits then the zinc oxides can be dusted out with almost any kind of soda blaster, even small home made. Only the finest glass bead will avoid damage to the threads and bores. The castings are usually warped and need to be made flat for the gaskets to work. The car may have sat for years with ethanol fuel doing the damage. I used to like the X carbs but now it is easier to use a ford V8 era carb. Good Luck: Fred A

Have a go, Ben . I don't want to discourage you but I reckon most Tillotsons are either so distorted or so corroded that they are beyond economical repair. Having said that there's no harm in following the advice on this forum and trying. Clean with the various chemicals, remove check and clean those components that can be removed, make sure the passsages are clear, reassemble with new gaskets etc and try it!
