Southwind heaters Jr. vs larger model
I am going to install a Southwind Heater in my 35 Ford Pickup, which as you know is a rather small cab. Will a standard heater be too big and put out too much heat or should I put in a Junior model. How is the heating comparing one with the other? Inquiring minds want to know.
Thanks. Lawson Cox |

You can never have too much heat in the winter. Just open the window if it gets uncomfortable

The intensity of the heat output is very high. Having your leg next to one for an extended period of time will result in a hot foot. I used to drive my 40 coupe all winter with the windows open. I would suggest the smaller of the two.

I agree, the one in my '39 has two settings, "Hot" and "Hotter". Boy, what I would have given to have had that when I was driving it to college!

Re: Southwind heaters Jr. vs larger model
Lawson, I would recommend the smaller one also. If you have not already cut the holes in your firewall, it is a good practice to check the unit out. I used a small gas can and the vac from the intake manifold of my Ford 600 farm tractor to do a static test. Used clip on wires to the tractor for elec. Reason for checking is that many of those heaters are stopped up inside and need taking apart and cleaned out to work. By the way, the glow plug and fan are controlled by a bimetal strip, as the heater heats, the strip cuts power to the glow plug and starts the fan. Fan does not come on until the heater is hot.

Re: Southwind heaters Jr. vs larger model
I wondered about a SouthWind for my sedan. It probably will not get a lot of winter driving but spring and fall here is cool and damp. The Jr sounds like it may be a possible choice.
