Just wondering here. Has anyone ever had their aluminum heads powder coated? I have been considering having my Edlebrock heads powder coated bright silver and am wondering how they would hold up? Of course I would mask off the spark plug gasket surfaces as well as all other holes.

I have made a similar mistake on intake manifolds and aluminum heads. Inevitably gas will drip onto the manifold or head. I don't know if it permeates the powdercoat or travels under it, but it will stain it just like it does bare aluminum. Problem is.....with the powdercoat on you can't clean it.

Gibbs brand lube/penetrant seems to keep aluminum from powdering and discoloring for a while. I'm sure other lubes perform equally as well. On my flathead I plan to just spray it down and wipe it regularly. Hopefully some other members can shed some more light on this.

SIMPLE - If you want your aluminum heads to stay brand new looking - don't drive it. That engine compartment is a dirty environment. Just kidding.
You can keep your engine compartment fairly clean, by washing, ever so often, with an old paint brush, a bucket of hot water, some detergent and some amonia.

You might check with one of the Jet Hot Coating places. Different than power coating. They coat Exhaust manifolds, pipes, etc. A friend flew a 350 King Air (Twin engine Turbo Prop jet) for a wealthy family here in town and he had the exhaust stacks Jet Hot coated silver and they held up very well.

The powder coat place that I use in Marshall does ceramic coating also but I was just wondering about the cheaper powder coat. I am planning to have my Fenton headers ceramic coated.

My buddy had his intake manifold and heads ceramic coated, from a distance looks like chrome, has stood up well for quite a few years now.

Spenser Industry in Green Bay has a tumbler drum piece of equipment where he puts aluminum parts, ceramic beads and soapy water in and runs for several hours. The process gives a bright finish that is much smoother than original and it easy to clean. If anyone wants pictures let me know we just finished doing an intake manifold and set of Eddie Meyer 21 stud heads for a 35. Will take some time to get picture taken need the wife's help Dave/Green Bay

have a flathead W/ heads ,intake, exhst ceramic coated for 11yrs still look as when coated. i do all my cars w/ceramic coating......
