help needed identify 32-33?
i recently fetched and old ford pickup that sat behind a barn not far from me that might be a good candidate for a parts truck for someone. The older gent in his mid 90s, told me he really didnt know if it was a 32 or 33. He had put it behind his barn back in the 1960s. He did give me the title and that is where we both were kinda stumbled. The title mfr number/vin reads B5237865. Can anyone tell me possibly what year this is? My father thinks it can be a B truck cause the vin starts with a B. Would the number on the block be found on the title also? Thank you for any help.

Re: help needed identify 32-33?
That 4cyl number is from August 1933 production. If that number is on the frame it is a 33.

A 32 truck has a 32 frame. A 33 truck has a 33 frame. Hold on, are you talking a bigger truck? I was thinking pickup.
If the firewall is removeable, it is a 32. Mart. |

Re: help needed identify 32-33?
Look for the number stamped into the top of the frame rail just about where the steering box is located. DD

It will also be stamped in the horizontal flat area on the flywheel housing immediately above the starter motor.

Judging by the firewall the cab is not a '32. That is the '33-'34 firewall. A '32 pickup uses the same firewall as a passenger car. The frame looks to be later model also. If I could see the reveal on the rear of the cab I could tell you if it is a '33 or '34.

Whoa! One for someone brave. The frame is a 33. - Factory x-member. Even if too far gone, it would still give up lots of useful parts.

Re: help needed identify 32-33?
The cab looks strange! No windshield visor and rear reveal molding is narrow and single. Also looks like there is an open roof. Doors and firewall look correct for 33 or 34. Rad shell looks 34. A puzzlement!

The inside-mounted front shock absorbers are another indication of '33 frame just as the single belt rail in the back indicative of a '33. The visor-less roof is a mystery, agreed.

You can see the reveal on the back of the cab. It's not the 34 style.

Minor correction, the Model B engine did not have a serial number (unless someone stamped to there after it left the factory). The number for the 4 cylinder engine/transmission assembly was on a pad on the flywheel housing near the starter (as well as 3 places on the frame, the first place was on top of the left frame rail near the steering box where it could be read without removing anything, the other two were under the body). The engine had a pad like was used for a serial number on a Model A but it was not stamped. Charlie Stephens |

Re: help needed identify 32-33?
The cab looks to be from a '33-'34 Panel Delivery, with the cargo area cut off. A better view of the rear of the body might give a clue as to it's origin. From what I can see now I think it may be the rear panel of a '32 Tudor or Fordor sedan modified to fit. If there is three inches between the top of the belt line and the bottom of the rear window reveal, and the window opening measures 9" X 25" it is from a '32 car body. Another possible indicator is the curve at the lower portion of that panel. Can you provide another view?

Re: help needed identify 32-33?
Very observant, Fordors! Nor does it have the stamped-in recessed areas characteristic of '32-'34 closed cabs ('32-'33 in the photo below).

Re: help needed identify 32-33?
I think you have something there Fordors! Visor less cab looks like the PD pictures on page 111 of the Wagner Ford Trucks book. The 33 B 182 cab had a double belt rail in the back (a continuation of the door belt rail) one small and one large like the 32. 34 had additional large belt rail on the cab back.
