Default using old ford parts

I have to replace a couple of beams on my verandah,they are 300mm x 65mm x 9.6 mtrs long
I had no way of propping up the floor bearers so used these two 46 torque tubes and jacks.

That's a great idea for using old Ford torque tubes. Looks like they would make nice lally columns!! I've been trying to come up with some ideas for using a bunch that I have accumulated. Can't seem to even give them away.

You sir are a genius! I, on the other hand, thought a verandah must be a model of car that Ford only sold down under.

Have you checked the snow load factor? Bet a winter like this might be an issue.

Old Ford parts? Are you sure that Ford didn't make the torque tubes out of old lally columns and now they are just going back to their original intent?

Many awning catalogs feature this method of torque tube lift as an option, this, however, is the first actual photo of this optio in actual use !

There is a guy a few streets over that has them for this very function. Old house, but never see any old cars around or in the garage so I have never stopped to ask. He might not know anything about them.
