Igot this transmission from a guy who was going to junk it . came out of a 39 dump truck .he bought it and cut it up ,saved the cab (rotted to death like everything up here in MA ) He kept some parts .I ended up getting a mint fan shroud ,complete steering colunm (I like the wheel), I saw the transmission and he said he was going to junk it WELL WE JUST COULDN,T HAVE THAT ??? So my question is what the hell have I got ? said it was a 4 speed . has a number 1011 on the side . I have the handles . any other numbers ? I figured I would clean it up ,I will not be putting it my 1/2 ton thats for sure Have I got a sickness ? can I be cured ? Mike

Hang on to it. If the gears in the PTO are good someone may need that unit. Also the linkage for engaging the PTO if its still on the truck. The shift tower and shifter are usable for adapting 49-50 Merc O/D transmissions to a floorshift configuration. Other than that check with Mac Van Pelt. He was looking at them a few years back.

After cleaning it up I found some numbers on the shifting tower, on the passenger side of the stick DG&M stamped in ,on the other side of the tower BB7222 with a larger 1024 underneith, allso on the front of the bell housing up top the serial number STAR BB18-4830777 STAR Any ideas on the others? who,s DG&M ? Some nice dark shade of green paint too !

DG&M stands for Detroit Gear and Machine. They are the ones that cast the case. I certainly wouldn't scrap the transmission. The BB7222 is the Ford part number. Good find.

Between the stars is the VIN, as I decipher BB means big truck and he 18-4...... Means 39 year as already stated. The guy with the cab needs the tracing off the trans for proof if he doesn't have a registration or numbers on frame. If he has numbers on frame I would cut them out to build into a frame if I was doing a hot rod.
