Flathead Questions?
1. Will a dual carb 255 Merc Flathead run on 6 volt? or at least fire or sputter?
2. Will a dual carbed 255 Merc Flathead running 6 volt produce a low compression number? |

Re: Flathead Questions?
1. yes it will run on 6v. Though why not upgrade to 12v and put in a decent high output 12v coil to give you better fire in the hole.
2. 6v will not affect compression at all, though 12v will give better starting . If you want 6v carry on as is. |

Re: Flathead Questions?
the trick with 6v is grounds, lots of good clean grounds with a heavy battery cable, not the 12v thin kind, from batt to engine, from engine to frame, from engine to fire wall, and a good heavy wire from engine to a clean starter bolt, try not to use an exhaust manafold bolt as a ground , heat is the enemy of electricity, the hotter it is the less juice will flow

Re: Flathead Questions?
Your bigest problem is the distributor, the stock distributor doesn't work well with dual carbs.

2. No Neither question has anything to do with voltage. |
