Default 1942-1947 half ton I.D. HELP!

I recently purchased the front section of a '42-'47 half ton (back of cab forward) and I am trying (unsuccessfully) to identify it. The person that I bought it from claimed it was a '41 but with parallel leaf spring's he's clearly wrong! V.I.N. tag's in both the inside of glove box and on the firewall are unreadable. Behind the front crossmember on top of left frame rail reads 699C-77080, with stars stamped at both ends and the dash has arrow heads on both ends. Can anybody give me any info?
