Anyone using a DWIGHT BOND Flathead adapter?
It seems I need one. I have a few questions please.............
How thick are they? Does it require using the Ford clutch linkage and throwout bearing? Anyone wanna sell me one? THANKS! John

Re: Anyone using a DWIGHT BOND Flathead adapter?
i've used a few D-B adapters. I think it's the way to go to install a T-5 trans. I use the hogshead form the big truck 4 speed. The hogshead has the thro out fork and shaft all in it. Also use the old Ford trans front bearing retainer that the thro out bearing slids on, It bolts rights to the inside of the adapter and the T-5 bolts right to the adapter. The adapter is about 1in. thick. Walt

Think about it.....they're over 40 years old now. I think AMC first used them around 1981. The very first one I drove was in a brand new '83 Camaro with a 305 V8. A buddy had ordered the car, and as soon as it came in, we went out in the toolies and hammered-on this new, close ratio transmission. I was in love after years of rowing Muncie 4-speeds. That T5 shifted like butter. Of course, a good, healthy T5 can still be assembled from aftermarket, or select used parts. And of course, there are the TKO, and the new bullet-proof TKX just waiting for your enjoyment. Bring CASH! Coop . |

Re: Anyone using a DWIGHT BOND Flathead adapter?
After building a strict traditional rod with a Ford 3 speed, I can certainly see the appeal of a T-5 or any OD trans. I wish the Jeep set-up wasn't as rare as hens teeth because using a torque tube seems like the best of both worlds.
I wonder if having a closed drive durable OD trans would be something old Ford enthusiasts would be interested in the aftermarket. |

I don't see why people are enameed by an antiquated rear axe assy. The T-5, a modern trans need something better. JMO

Re: Anyone using a DWIGHT BOND Flathead adapter?
People are "enameled" with a banjo rear the same they are with a flathead. It's a Ford design that can't be beat for simplicity and geometry, as well as not a lot of excess parts. And it's a really beautiful rearend if you are into that kind of thing.

I haven't side stepped the clutch or anything like that, but I've gotten the rear bias ply tires smoking and the old banjo is still ticking. At least for now. LOL! |

Re: Anyone using a DWIGHT BOND Flathead adapter?
You'll have to forgive me. In my earley days of Hot Rodding, I got hooked on the mondter cubic inch Oldsmobile engines. These 303 ci monsters would shatter the transmissions anr Rip the teeth off the pinion gres while making pretzels out of the axles.
AND THEN THEY GOT BIGGER |
