Re: 8BA with early toploader "18" Case (32 -34)
On my 32, I used the stock throwout bearing, etc. Just changed the pressure plate only.
My flywheel was drilled for 10" PP, but the Long Style I had was an Off Shore product that chattered terribly. I like the diaphram clutch |

Re: 8BA with early toploader "18" Case (32 -34)
Thanks Again Kahuna !
Here are some pictures of my progress last night, so far a perfect fit ! Overall Comparison: Mounting Face to Finger Comparison (done on a plastic table with a sheet on it... but the heights were the same) Input Diameter comparison (don't see any issues here) And finally Installed... By tomorrow I hope I can report on "running" function :-) Hope this info can be of help. |

Looking good Dennis! Did your flywheel already have the smaller pattern, or did you have the machine shop redrill it?

Yes it was already drilled for the 10" Clutch, it had the old style "flyweight" 10" that had clearance issues with the early 32 - 34 transmission bell.

Re: 8BA with early toploader "18" Case (32 -34)
Does this diaphragm clutch give you a lighter pedal?
Thinking about behind a built flathead. Sure a stock long type 10" gives me the clamping I want but at north of six grand the pedal pressure is excessive, due to the counter weights. The diaphragm appears not to be semi centrifugal. Anybody know? Thanks, Martin. |

Scooder
Actually, I think the diaphram clutch is a bit stiffer in operation, but not terrible. I haven't run my engine beyond 5500 rpm, but there is not a problem with clamping force. I run a 4 speed with the Jeep shifter and you can't really speed shift it at all, due to the design of the shift housing. |

Re: 8BA with early toploader "18" Case (32 -34)
Thanks Mr Kahuna.
Had a little brain storm regarding the pedal pressure. Seem to recall that diaphragm clutches tend to be stiffer if just swapped in from a coil spring clutch, but there action is shorter. So you can add a bit of leverage ratio, and lighten the pedal up without running our of action. If you catch my drift. Does that make sence? Martin. |
